Rum is the only alcoholic ingredient inside the mojito, so it’s got to be a great one. Light rum is the suggested kind to be added, which is typically clear in color. Any brand will be acceptable, however if you don’t want the harshness, try something a little higher than well. If you’ve never heard of the brand, then you don’t want it inside of your Mojito.

What Kind of Rum Goes Inside a Mojito

There are a few key things to look for when you buy rum for your mojito. These include:

- Cost more than $20

- Clear in color

- Made in the Caribbean

If you follow these guidelines, you’ll likely come up with a perfectly acceptable rum that can be added into the cocktail so that you can enjoy it to its fullest potential. Anything cheaper and you are wasting perfectly good ingredients to a less than stellar rum.

Opened in the 1980′s by Henry and Holly Wendt, Quivera Vineyards has been at the forefront of quality wines in the Dry Creek Valley since it’s inception. A wine gift from the vineyard isn’t the most expensive, but the small production and high quality will ensure that your receiver loves the gift. Now with 90 planted acres, Quivera is able to grow and produce only estate grown fruit, one of the few producers of it’s size anywhere in California capabale of making that claim. Pete Knight purchased the winery in 06 and has continued both the high quality level of the wine as well as the strict attention to being “green”. Quivera was among the first vineyards or wineries in California to have solar panels, adhere to biodnamic farming practices or generally work toward improving the land it is based on. The Zin and Sauvignon Blanc are typically the quality leaders here and both are well worth the price.
