Want a half-day hike? A four hour trail is the Kawakawa Bay Walking Track that starts at the beach and features some climbs and wonderful views of the bay.
Last but not least, you’ll want to experience the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. It exposes you to alpine terrain, historic areas and lake and river trails. It can be broken down into individual walks.
Anywhere where you walk around the Lake Taupo region, you’ll see wonderful flora, fauna, and wildlife. You could see anything from trout to bush parrots to cave carvings to who knows what! Sea, shore, mountains, forest, city, suburbs and country make a rich tapestry upon which to walk, stroll, jog, or run. There are plenty of maps of the area’s walking trails that include guides, suggestions, and information.
